California earthquake does not interrupt California American Water service - July 29, 2008. A 5.8-magnitude earthquake, centered in Chino Hills, CA, struck the Southland at 11:42 am. Chino Hills is about 25 miles from Duarte, California American Water’s nearest water utility. After SCADA analysis and initial surveys, all local operations appear to be unaffected by the quake.
