Community Programs

Being a good neighbor is part of our mission at American Water. We are dedicated to Ohio and demonstrate our commitment in activities throughout the state. We help people in need through the H20 Help to Others Program®, a financial assistance program funded primarily by American Water in Ohio, to help customers pay their water bills. We partner with local schools, environmental groups and fire departments to deliver projects that benefit the communities we serve. And we support local United Way campaigns and partner with organizations like Water for People, an organization that helps improve the quality of life to impoverished people by supporting sustainable drinking water, sanitation and health and hygiene education. From popcorn festivals in Marion to canoe races in Tiffin, you’ll see our commitment to being a good neighbor in every town we serve throughout Ohio.

At American Water, being a good neighbor and helping out whenever we can is critical to what we do. We are your local water company, but we are also your partner in environmental stewardship, educational programs, and community involvement. We are dedicated to our communities and demonstrate that commitment every day with programs that support the communities we serve.

Across the country we work closely with our communities to make sure we are giving back. We do this in a number of ways. We participate with elementary, middle and high schools to teach students - and teachers - about wise water use and protection of the environment. We work with organizations such as the United Way and local Chambers of Commerce to support local environmental, cultural and educational programs. And, we work closely with our communities to help protect, clean up and restore drinking water supplies and watershed areas.

From river clean-ups, to presenting the water treatment process at local schools, to setting up water arches at charity runs, every day American Water employees are active and engaged in the communities where we live and work.

Below are a few examples of programs we have participated in.

  • In Illinois, we are a founder and a 20-year supporter of the Peoria Clean Water Celebration, a program that has taught thousands of students, teachers and business professionals how they can make a difference by protecting the nation’s waterways.
  • In New Jersey, we’ve partnered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and The New Jersey Audubon Society to support and protect the wildlife, wetland and watershed areas in the state.
  • In Kentucky, we support a number of organizations that protect or restore the environment. Some of those include the Clyde E. Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary, Bluegrass PRIDE, and the Arboretum, Kentucky’s official botanical garden.
  • In California, we’ve sponsored the American River Salmon Festival, Sacramento County’s Creek Week, and Big Fishin’ in the Second District, an event that took underprivileged and at-risk kids on a fishing trip.
